  • Eligibility: All students in any of the 4 schools who received their Yellow Flag last year as well as the current Five Yellow Flag schools are eligible to enter the competition. All entries must be original work.

Tips and Guidelines

  • Entries should reflect the ethos of the  Yellow Flag Programme – the promotion of interculturalism and a commitment to diversity.
  • Subject matter/ content: Competitors are free to choose whatever theme they are the most interested in and are encouraged to be as original and imaginative as possible. Students are especially encouraged to use style and ideas that they feel represent their own culture. There should be no text in the art. There should be no need for words and the picture should speak for itself.
  • Subject medium: The entry must be 2D, but can take any form you think suitable, drawing, print, painting, cartoon, collage, computer generated art etc.
  • Subject size: The entry can be any size that you like but again, you should bear in mind that it will eventually be reduced to the size of a standard logo and as such should be suitable for later reproduction.

Entry return: Please bear in mind that it may not be possible to return all entries.

  • Linking with Show Racism the Red Card: Students are encouraged to submit there entries as well to Show Racism the Red Card’s Art Competition. The deadline for there entries is the later date of Feb 2011. Students should check  out http://www.theredcard.ie/competition.php for further details & idea’s.

Yellow Flag Logo Competition

In November, students from the four pilot schools submitted entries for an art competition to inspire a suitable logo for the Yellow Flag Programme. Entries were judged on the basis of originality, audience appeal and technical suitability for reproduction. We had a great response from all four schools, who displayed immense imagination and effort over the course of a  short submission time.

After careful consideration from a panel of judges, (Paula Madden, Aoife Titley, Eileen McBride, Salma Shaarawy and Louise Daly) designs from Martin Stokes, Aine Daly and Michael O Riordan were chosen as prize winners. Please see their designs below.

Martin Stokes, Age 11, Castaheany Educate Together
"It is like the world and has two yellow flags"

Aine Daly, Age 14 Mercy Mounthawk Secondary School
"It shows several different cultures can all come together as one unit  working together as one".

Michael ORiordan, Age 17 Mercy Mounthawk Secondary School
"It shows people of different races and cultures helping to carry the flag. The road shows a journey."
